“Enjoy your body, use it every way you can. Don’t be afraid of it, or what other people think of it, it’s the greatest instrument you’ll ever own” – Kurt Vonnegut

This is my body. It’s gone through three pregnancies, enjoys pizza, and loves wine.  It has scars, flaws, tattoos, and imperfections.  But it’s mine.  We obsess over the way we want to look or think we should look.  However, we forget the simple things.  God gave us these instruments. They were not meant to be perfect, but meant to be ours.  The cuts and bruises along the way means we are living, we’re alive. They give us a story to tell and a memory to reminisce upon.  Some things we simply cannot change no matter how hard we try.  We can’t let that get us down.  Each one of us is different in our own way and that’s what makes us special.  You would not be you, otherwise.

As the new year begins, many of us share the same goal of weightloss, exercise, and eating healthy.  I’m a  firm believer in slow and steady wins the race and doing it the right way.  This is what works for me.  Motivation, moderation, and inspiration is key.  The older I get, the harder it is to lose the weight I’ve accidentally put on. Yes, I said accidentally- it makes me feel better.  I’m totally kidding. Honestly, I try not to get too hard on myself when I tack on a few pounds because I am certain that meant I was enjoying life around me.  Indulgences.  Let’s face it, if we don’t let ourselves indulge once in a while, where’s the fun in life?  I like pizza, I eat pizza.  I like wine, I drink wine.  My goal this year is to simply scale it back.  I want to be good to my body that I was given but remember to live a little every now and then.

I am a wife and mother to 3 pretty amazing children.  I work a full time job, 50+ hours a week.  I blog in my spare time, and work for my local boutique (blogging, styling, modeling- whatever they need).  I’m busy.  I make myself busy.  Friends often ask how do I manage it all.  I like to be busy.  Sitting just isn’t in my nature.  Sure I’m stressed out and anxiety runs wild sometimes but I’ve always been this way and I enjoy getting every moment out of every day.  I do plenty with my children and always make them my number one priority, because they are my life.  I stay up too late, but that will probably never change, at least not for awhile.  Once the kids fall asleep and the house is picked up, I truly enjoy the time I spend with my husband before we head up to sleep.  Whether it’s a cocktail and our favorite show, cards or board game, or simply just having a conversation…I love this time with him.

Finding extra time to work out is tough.  You’re not alone.  Carving out that time each day is challenging. I try my best and squeeze it in when I can.  On Tuesdays I take my daughter to dance in the next town over.  On this night, I stay in town and force my lazy butt into Planet Fitness.  There’s one good workout each week.  On Thursdays I zip into my friend and fitness instructor’s Total Body class.  It’s close, it’s quick, and she kicks my butt for days!  That’s two good workouts in a week.  If that’s all I get, I’m good with that.  When I have the time I workout at home.  We are plenty equipped for it.  I try to eat generally healthy most of the time but I like my Mexican food and pasta is a killer!

Before a vacation, I do step it up.  We are heading to Jamaica in 5 weeks so I’m trying to be a little more disciplined.  Setting a goal each week of my expectations for my workouts and meal planning is about as far out as I plan.  I have a goal weight in mind but it’s not about the scale.  It’s how I feel.  I was nervous to take these photos but I had to show off some of my after Christmas Lululemon scores.  I also wanted to offer my story so you know you’re not alone.  The struggle is real.  Surprisingly, I feel pretty confident. This is me, this is my body, and I’m not ashamed.  If I am not confident in myself, how can you be confident in me?

I believe in moderation.  I believe in support.  I believe change is possible.  Don’t get down on yourself.  Pick yourself up, brush it off, and move forward.  Take it one day at a time and enjoy each and every day. I’m making 2017 my year…will you?
