Thanksgiving Style

Can you believe it’s almost Thanksgiving?  This year has flown by so quickly I can hardly fathom that it is officially the holiday season.  The weather in Michigan has been extremely out of the norm. Even for Michigan, but we are used to whacky weather.  Nothing like this fall’s temps do I ever recall experiencing.  We have had numerous record high days and this Friday will reach 70- almost seems like a repeat to saying goodbye to summer.  This weekend though, it’s all about to change.  One of these days I’ll officially be able to tell you it’s sweater weather.

I am hosting Thanksgiving this year.  Traditionally, we have always gone to my brother’s house but they moved to KY.  My mom was thinking about having it and I said, let me do it!  They do so much for us, they deserve to sit back and relax.  I am really excited to host.  Now, I’m not getting all fancy with tablescapes and everything, but I will make some delicious and awesome food.  I love baking my own pies and the kiddos are excited to help me.  In the past, I  have made a very small scale version of Thanksgiving dinner when it was just my husband and I living up north about 4 hours away.  I have to say I was quite impressed…I think he was too!  Let’s be real though, I can follow a recipe and instructions so how hard can it really be to mess something up?!?  Needless to say, I’ll be setting down this weekend with my old Betty Crocker Bridal Edition (that’s right) gathering my recipes and making my shopping list.  I’ll likely be cooking in my pj’s all morning, and possibly upgrade to some leggings and  button down when it’s time to eat.  However, if I was going out, I would definitely wear this look I’m featuring!

A Sweater Story

This sweater is the softest and coziest sweater I own.  It’s not too hot, it doesn’t leave you cold, in fact, it’s just right.  I wasn’t always a huge fan of sweaters. For a couple years I despised them and the way they looked on my boxy frame. I didn’t own a single sweater for years.  I slowly started adding them back into my life around 4 years ago. It’s been trial and error to figure out what’s best for me and my wider shoulders, but I’m getting there. Baggy and oversized really doesn’t flatter me, so fitted is the way to go.  I tend to shy away from cowl necks and turtle necks too.  Funny enough, I’m almost always cold, but sweaters make me sweaty!  For real.  I want to be warm and comfortable, not feeling like I’m hot flashing at only 35!

These skinny jeans are fanatic.  They offer the perfect stretch and I love the placement of the distressing. These boots were one of my NSALE purchases from August and I love them.  For me they ran small, so size up.  Blanket scarves are still all the rage and they are everywhere. My favorite place to grab accessories is of course, Sofi Stella Boutique. As a stylist and model for the store, I always get to see fashion and trends first hand. This print is so unique and love the lighter colors.

Vests Over Cold Shoulders

I cannot get enough of this look. I’ve been super into wearing my vests over cold shoulder tops lately. It’s a great way to layer and a little something extra to a simple cold shoulder shirt.   You can really get into pattern play and print mixing, as well as pairing together different textures.  To complete this look here, throw on your favorite pair of skinny jeans, black booties, and add some oversized sunglasses.  As far as jewelry, I have on only earrings.  Not every outfit needs a necklace or bangle.  The floral print adds enough detail all on it’s own and the oversized sunnies totally top it off!

If you’re like me and not a super fan of strapless bras except when super necessary, this is an easy style to be able to wear your regular bra with.  If you have no intentions of peeling your vest off at any point, then the vest should likely cover your bra straps completely, allowing for more comfort throughout the day.  As if this pairing wasn’t already super awesome enough, that reason right there just makes it all the better!  Play around with your options too…short, long, midi, or duster length vests will each bring something different to the table.

Scallop Style with SheIn!

Well, don’t these scallops just brighten up your day?!  I enjoy a top with fun detail, who doesn’t.  I’m definitely getting a two for one special with not only the scallop but the bow as well.  If you’re looking for trendy, very affordable clothing then check out SheIn.com.

I chose to pair this top featured here with easy denim.  My new lace up heels (which you will see lots more of) and some accent jewelry help dress it up.  It’s a great look for date night, in my opinion.  Before choosing to picture this top with jeans, I tried some skirts and dress pants and thought it looked equally cute.

Transitioning Rompers to Fall

I love adding fall colors to the end of summer and this yellow is perfect for that.  I wanted to show a couple ways to wear it to give you options. The romper alone is the easiest way to feel put together. It doesn’t take much.  A couple accessories and you’re set.

Transitioning rompers to fall is the same as dresses.  Swapping out your sandals for booties (not pictured here because it’s still blazing hot!) and by adding layering pieces.  This long floral vest was a must have for fall. I didn’t anticipate to pair it with this romper but I love the look of the two together. It’s not quite cool enough for jackets, blazers, or bombers (all of which help transition a romper to fall) but I am craving that “fall look”.  I’ve linked some similar items below to get you started! Silk and Leather

The easiest fall transition…I’ve talked about it, you’ve heard others talk about it…take a dress, add a jacket, and you’re done. I like to spice things up with a little silk and lot of leather!  OK, it’s from Express, so you know it’s technically “minus the leather”.   Nonetheless, it’s a timeless and classic look that can do no wrong.

Here in the mitten state, the weather has cooled down some…or so we thought. Just when you think it’s safe to turn the AC off, BOOM, back to 85 and mid 60’s at night. That’s hardly good sleeping weather.  I am determined to keep that AC OFF once and for all, until next season.  So it’s windows wide open, fans on high, and lots of water in the meantime!
